Teachers really play key roles towards the education and student’s life. Teachers generally become a person with proper vision, knowledge and experience. Teaching profession is a profession of great responsibility that any other jobs. Teaching profession has a great impact on the growth, development and well being of the students and nation. Today, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I am giving this speech in English on behalf of all the students of Class IX.
Teachers’ Day is celebrated in India on 5th September every year. It is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. This great son of India was an outstanding scholar and teacher. Later on he became the Vice President of Indian republic when Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the President of India. When he died, Radhakrishnan became the President.
Teachers’ day is observed to pay respect to the teachers of our country. We also pay our respect to our own teachers. Teachers are regarded as the back-bone of our society. They have the greatest contribution to build up the characters of students and help them to become ideal citizens of our country.
The teachers teach students most carefully and sincerely and love them as their own children. We owe them more than our parents. Our parents bring us up and give us food and drink for our survival, but teachers arouse our hearts with light of knowledge and remove all sorts of ignorance. The study that we do at schools and colleges build the foundation of our character.
According to Brad Henry, “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.”
The teachers inspire us to proceed forward, to build our ethics and prepare us to withstand obstacles of our life. The teacher also imparts immense knowledge and wisdom in our lives. On this day, teachers are honoured through various functions and these functions are celebrated at every place throughout the country. The government also pays respect to them by giving different awards. On this day, we give them thanks and honour them by saying, – we are grateful to you dear teachers for all you do for us.
Teachers work hard day and night to bring out the best in students. They unfolds the our hidden talents and creativity . Just like a good gardener, a teacher sows the seeds of moral-ethics within us so that we can become good citizens.
The teachers’ day event of 2014 was really special. On this day, our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi had interacted with the students and delivered an inspiring speech. He answered the questions asked by the students and role of teachers in our life. He also highlighted the importance of girl’s education and cleanliness.
A similar event was conducted during 2015 teachers day as well. On this occasion, Our Prime Minister gave yet another inspiring speech. We all thank our Prime Minister to guide us as a teacher.
Students are the true representatives of the teachers. I request every student to follow the advice of teachers and promise to be the ideal and worthy men of India.

However, he replied that, instead of celebrating 5th of September as my personal birthday, it would be better if it is dedicated to the whole teaching profession. In India, 5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s day every year with lots of joy, happiness, and enthusiasm. It is celebrated as a national festival in India. It is marked as a tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. Actually, 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a very dedicated supporter of humanism, an educationalist and also the second President of India. He was born on 5th September 1888 and was a great writer. He wrote many books on religion and philosophy.
He worked as a professor of philosophy in many Universities of India like Kolkata, Mysore, Chennai, etc and also in the Oxford University of London. He was also been designated as the Chairman of University Grants Commission in the year 1949 and he always loved the teacher’s community being a teacher. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962, he was been requested by some of his students and friends to celebrate his birthday, but he asked them to celebrate this day as teacher’s day instead of celebrating his birthday separately. The request shows his privilege and love for the teacher’s every year on this day.
In India, teachers are considered as a very contributional person of the country. A good teacher in the life of a student is those who put unconditional efforts and support in shaping and making their career bright and successful. They also play an important role in making their student a good human being along with proper career so a teacher reserves the place above their parents. Teachers generally become a person with proper vision, knowledge, and experience. They are the real fortune makers in the student’s life, who try to do best for his student’s success. They make us strong and prepare us to stand against any difficulty. Teaching profession is a great responsibility than any other profession. It has a great impact on the growth, development and well being of the students and the nation.
According to the Madan Mohan Malavia, a teacher is “……. It Lies Largely In His Teacher’s Hand To Mould The Mind Of The Child Who Is Father Of The Man. If he is patriotic and devoted to the national cause and realizes his responsibility, he can produce a race of patriotic men and women who would religiously place the country above the community and national gain above communal advantage.”
There are many roles of teachers in the education of students, society, and country. The growth and development of the people and society solely depend on the quality of education given. A better quality education is very essential in fulfilling all the needs of politicians, doctors, engineers, businessmen, farmers, artists, scientists, etc in the country. Teachers contribute their hard works and go through the variety of books, articles, etc to put thorough knowledge needed to the society. They guide their students properly for their good career.
It is never easy for a teacher to handle a class of students with different social, cultural, economic and religious backgrounds. Other than that it is also very difficult for them to teach students with various learning abilities which is a great challenge for them. The teacher also has responsibilities and pressure of home as our parents. In spite of that, they always appear cheerful and happy in their class forgetting their personal problems and life behind them every day not letting their teaching effect anyway. This is something that students realize later, being mature when they face the same.
So this day is briefly celebrated everywhere in India. Students from different schools and colleges of our country plan something special on this day for the teachers to make this day special for them like dancing, singing, acting etc. On this day, students offer flowers, greeting cards, etc to their teachers to show their affection towards them. This day is the only day when we can show our gratitude to our respected teachers for their immense support and good work. They show their unconditional and unselfish efforts towards us without discriminating among us treating everyone equally. So, to give them honor, students prepare various ideas for celebrating this auspicious day every year.
Teachers get awards for their excellent teaching skills and work done in the academics field of the students. They are greeting cards, bouquets, and special gifts from their students. Many schools arrange special games for the teacher to enjoy their day. Reunion is also arranged in some schools and colleges to make them feel their importance for their old students as well. Students also prepare little speech in honor to their teachers. Some schools allow students to teach on this day to make their teachers comfortable and relaxed. On this day, teachers also allow their students to mimic them or any other teachers or any celebrity for their fun.
We the people of India have always respected and acknowledged our teachers for their immense patience, power, and support to build our careers. Hence, we believe that our hard work, determination and a good teacher are responsible for the achievements and unlimited heights of success in our life. So, by celebrating Teachers day every year we just want to say warm thanks to our respected teachers and give a tribute to those famed teachers who have served their complete life for the country’s future. We give our heartiest regards and acknowledge them for their good work.

Thanks for inviting me and associating me with celebration of Teachers Day in your esteemed school for the second time. First time it was in 2007. I don’t remember what I said seven years ago, but today, as I near my retirement, I would like to share with you some thoughts about our own professional role as teachers.
I have no experience of teaching in school, but I have not forgotten my years in school. Teachers have great responsibility-to make students creative. None helped me in a way I could remember one with respect or gratitude. Perhaps, that’s why I am not very fond of worshipping ‘Guru’ even if we may feel flattered by celebrating “Guru Parva”.
But occasion like this should be viewed as time for self-reflection: what are we doing? How? And how can we change ourselves, besides making our students creative?
It hurts me deeply to read reports of phy…
