The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has today released the exam dates for the conduct of next UGC-NET 2018 for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor. As per a notification issued by the CBSE, the exam will be conducted on 8th July 2018 (Sunday).
The upper age limit for appearing in JRF has also been raised by two years, i.e. from the existing upper age limit of 28 years to 30 years. However, the age relaxation will be same as it was earlier.
The candidates are required to apply online from 6th March 2018. Applications will be open for a month and the last date of applying online is April 5, 2018, and the fees can be paid on or before April 6, 2018.
Candidates who desire to appear in the test may see the detailed notification available on the official website http://cbsenet.nic.in from February 1, 2018.
Revised UGC-NET 2018 Exam Format Scheme
As per the revised scheme, the test will consist of two papers as below:
Paper-I will be of 100 marks consisting of 50 compulsory questions. The duration of the paper will be one hour from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Paper II will again be of 100 marks consisting of 100 compulsory questions, the duration of which will be two hours, from 11 am to 1 pm on the same day.
Paper-I shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying two marks. The questions will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching or research attitude of the candidate. It will be primarily designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper-II shall consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions each carrying two marks which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate.

The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them. The award of JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both OR Eligibility for Assistant Professor only will depend on the performance of the candidate in all three papers of NET. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor will not be considered for award of JRF.
